The Last Airbender Summary

The Search is a graphic novel that follows Zuko as he searches for his mother, Ursa. The story picks up shortly after the events of The Promise, where Zuko and Aang have defeated Fire Lord Ozai and restored peace to the world. Zuko has always been haunted by the mystery of his mother’s disappearance. He was only a child when she left, and he has no memories of her. He has spent years searching for her, but his efforts have been fruitless.

In The Search, Zuko enlists the help of Team Avatar to help him find his mother. They travel to the Fire Nation capital, where they learn that Ursa was banished by Azula. They also learn that Ursa is alive and living in the Earth Kingdom. Zuko and Team Avatar travel to the Earth Kingdom to find Ursa. Along the way, they face many challenges, including Azula, who is determined to stop them from finding Ursa.

Eventually, Zuko and Team Avatar find Ursa. She is living in a small village with her new husband and children. Zuko is overjoyed to finally find his mother, but he is also angry with her for leaving him. Ursa explains that she left Zuko because she was afraid for his safety. She knew that Azula would never stop trying to kill him, and she didn’t want him to get hurt. Zuko eventually forgives his mother, and they are reunited.

About the Author of The Last Airbender

Gene Luen Yang began making comic books in the fifth grade. He has since written and drawn a number of titles. His 2006 book, American Born Chinese, was the first graphic novel to be nominated for a National Book Award and the first to win the American Library Association’s Michael L. Printz Award. It also won an Eisner Award for Best Graphic Album—New. His 2013 two-volume graphic novel, Boxers & Saints, was nominated for both the National Book Award and the LA Times Book Award. Gene currently writes the graphic novel continuation of the popular Nickelodeon cartoon, Avatar: The Last Airbender.
