James Tynion IV is an American comic book writer who was born on December 14, 1987. He is best known for his work on the Batman franchise at DC Comics, as well as his independent series Department of Truth and Something Is Killing the Children. He has won three Eisner Awards and one GLAAD Media Award for his work. He is also a nine-time nominee for the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comic Book, the most nominations of any writer. He studied creative writing at Sarah Lawrence College under Scott Snyder, who later became his mentor and collaborator in the comic book industry. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
