Summary
In the fictional West African-inspired land of Orïsha, magic has been outlawed by the ruthless King Saran. He has killed all the maji (magicians) over the age of 13, and those who are younger are forced to hide their powers. Zélie teams up with Princess Amari, the king’s daughter, who has stolen a scroll that can restore magic. Together, Zélie, Amari, and Inan journey across Orïsha, facing many challenges along the way. They must battle the majiari, the king’s soldiers, and even their own prejudices.
