Conclusion
The novel is a classic tale of forbidden love, with all the requisite elements of passion, intrigue, and suspense. The characters are well-developed and the plot is engaging. However, the novel’s greatest strength is its setting. Abe brings the world of 16th century France to life with her vivid descriptions of the countryside, the castle, and the people who inhabit them.
