Zombie Town is a 2023 comedy horror film based on a book by R.L. Stine, starring Madi Monroe, Marlon Kazadi, Dan Aykroyd, and Chevy Chase. The film follows Amy and Mike, two kids who accidentally unleash a curse that turns their town into a horde of zombies. They have to find the mysterious filmmaker who can reverse the spell before it’s too late.
The film has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, with a 60% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Some critics praised the film for its humor, satire, and homage to the horror genre, while others criticized it for its nonsensical plot, clichéd characters, and lack of scares. The film has been described as a “delightful, funny and zany horror comedy satire” by Avi Offer of NYC Movie Guru², and a “reasonable-enough premise that’s employed to increasingly (and exhaustingly) underwhelming effect” by David Nusair of Reel Film Reviews.
The film also features a cameo appearance by Henry Czerny, Bruce McCulloch, and Scott Thompson, and a post-credits scene that hints at a possible sequel. The film is aimed at pre-teen viewers, but also appeals to older fans of R.L. Stine and horror movies. Zombie Town is available to watch on Hulu, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Vudu..
