Wild Ride is a 2023 memoir by Hayley Arceneaux, the youngest American to ever orbit the Earth. In her book, Arceneaux recounts her journey from cancer survivor to astronaut, and the many challenges and triumphs she faced along the way.
Arceneaux was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, at the age of 10. She underwent several rounds of chemotherapy and surgery, and eventually lost her leg to the disease. But Arceneaux never gave up hope, and she went on to become a physician assistant at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the same hospital that saved her life.
In 2021, Arceneaux was selected to be one of the crew members on Inspiration4, the world’s first all-civilian spaceflight. The mission was launched by SpaceX and funded by billionaire Jared Isaacman. Arceneaux and her crewmates spent three days in orbit, conducting scientific experiments and raising awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
In Wild Ride, Arceneaux shares her inspiring story of perseverance and hope. She writes about the challenges she faced as a cancer survivor, the discrimination she experienced as a woman and a person with a disability, and the determination that helped her achieve her dreams. Arceneaux also offers insights into the Inspiration4 mission and what it was like to travel to space.
Wild Ride is a must-read for anyone who has ever faced adversity. It is a story about overcoming challenges, pursuing your dreams, and never giving up on yourself.
