Elizabeth McCracken is an American author who has published six novels and four memoirs. She is married to the novelist Edward Carey, with whom she has two children. She is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and an artist-in-residence at Skidmore College. She is known for her humorous and compassionate stories that often deal with loss, family, and identity. She won the Story Prize for her collection Thunderstruck & Other Stories and was a finalist for the National Book Award for her novel The Giant’s House. Her memoir An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination recounts her experience of losing her first child before birth.
