“Pack” is a science fiction novel by Thomas Berger set in a dystopian future where humans have been genetically engineered into two distinct groups: the Alpha Pack, who are tall, muscular, and extremely intelligent, and the Omega Pack, who are short, frail, and mentally deficient. The Alphas are the ruling class, and they use the Omegas as slaves and food.
The story follows a young Alpha named Michael, who is sent to Omega City to capture an Omega girl named Alice. Alice is an anomaly, an Omega who is as intelligent as an Alpha. Michael is initially disgusted by Alice, but as he gets to know her, he begins to question his beliefs about Omegas.
Meanwhile, Alice is planning a rebellion against the Alphas. She believes that the Omegas are just as capable as the Alphas, and she wants to create a new society where all people are equal.
The two packs eventually clash in a battle that will decide the fate of humanity.
