Alex Brim, Hero for Hire is a novel by Krushandkill that follows the story of Sakamo Ryu, a fifteen-year-old boy who lives a double life. On Earth, he is a normal boy, but in the magical world of Azurath, he is Alex Brim, a Hero for Hire.
Alex’s life in Azurath is anything but normal. The world is constantly plagued by Magical Voids, tears in the sky from which monsters fall and wreak havoc. Alex uses his skills as a Hero for Hire to protect the people of Azurath from these monsters and other threats.
One day, Alex is hired by the King of Azurath to investigate a series of mysterious attacks on villages. Alex soon discovers that the attacks are being carried out by a group of bandits who are working for a powerful sorcerer.
Alex must use all of his skills and cunning to defeat the bandits and the sorcerer. Along the way, he will make new allies, learn more about his own powers, and uncover a dark secret about his past.
Summary of the first volume:
The story begins with Alex in Azurath, where he is hired by a merchant to escort a caravan of goods to a nearby city. Along the way, the caravan is attacked by a group of goblins and orcs. Alex defeats the monsters, but not before they manage to steal a magical orb from the caravan.
Alex tracks the monsters to their lair, where he discovers that they are working for a powerful sorcerer named Shadar. Alex defeats the monsters and recovers the orb, but he is captured by Shadar.
Shadar reveals that he is planning to use the orb to open a portal to the Abyss, a realm of demons and other evil creatures. Alex manages to escape from Shadar’s castle and returns to the city, where he warns the King about Shadar’s plans.
The King gathers an army to fight Shadar, but Shadar is too powerful for them. Just when it seems that all is lost, Alex arrives with Shinatobe, a powerful spirit familiar. Alex and Shinatobe defeat Shadar and close the portal to the Abyss.
In the aftermath of the battle, Alex is hailed as a hero. He is offered a position as a royal knight, but he declines. Alex prefers to remain a Hero for Hire, helping those in need and making his own way in the world.
