Invasion series season 2 is the second season of the Apple TV+ science fiction drama that follows different characters around the world as they face an alien invasion. The season picks up 121 days after the first season’s finale, where the humans managed to shoot down one of the alien ships, but have been losing the war ever since. The season introduces new characters, locations, and threats, as well as exploring the history and politics of the world.

The main characters of the season are:

  • Mitsuki Yamato (Shioli Kutsuna), a former communications specialist for the Japanese space agency, who has a connection with the aliens and tries to communicate with a captured alien entity that may reveal their true motives.
  • Trevante Cole (Shamier Anderson), a soldier who returns to civilian life, but follows clues from Caspar’s notebook to find the ground zero of the invasion and a possible way to stop it.
  • Aneesha Malik (Golshifteh Farahani), a mother who has become a survivalist and leads her children, Luke (Azhy Robertson) and Sarah (Tara Moayedi), across British Columbia with an alien weapon they don’t fully understand.
  • Caspar Morrow (Billy Barratt), a bullied boy who is revealed to be the chosen one, but is in a coma and trapped inside the alien’s collective intelligence.
  • Jamila Houston (India Brown), a hacker who was rescued by Caspar in the first season and is now under the ocean at Folkstone, where she discovers a secret about the aliens.
  • Montgomery Cuttermill (Paddy Holland), Caspar’s friend who travels across Europe with his other friends to find Caspar and help him.
  • Clark Evans (Enver Gjokaj), a former NASA engineer who joins Mitsuki’s team and helps her decipher the alien’s language and technology.
  • Rose Callaway (Nedra Marie Taylor), a journalist who investigates the cover-up of the invasion by the government and exposes the truth to the public.
  • Maya Castillo (Naian González Norvind), a Mexican activist who leads a resistance movement against the aliens and their collaborators.

The season consists of 10 episodes that are more action-packed, thrilling, and emotional than the first season. The season also deviates significantly from the source material, which is a book series by Hugh Howey. The season has received mostly positive reviews from critics, who praised the performances, production design, and action sequences. Some of the common themes in the reviews are:

  • The season is more assured, epic, and suspenseful than the first one, and finds its footing right from the start.
  • The season focuses more on the individual storylines of the younger cast, who shine in their roles and face new challenges and dangers.
  • The season also explores the darker aspects of the world and the characters, as well as their inner conflicts and doubts.
  • The season still suffers from some pacing issues, uneven tone, and lack of character development for some of the supporting roles.
